I’ve lived here in the Alamo City my entire life and even attended Trinity University, where I received my Advanced Interdisciplinary Degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. During my post-graduate work at the UT Health Science Center (San Antonio), I was able to capitalize on my background in both Search & Rescue and Advance Rope Access in an exciting venture as a subcontracting arborist and ultimately a complex-tree removal specialist. Eventually the call was too great, and I ceased working as a subcontractor and founded AmpuTree.”

“Originally a Rio Grande Valley native, after graduating top of my class in high school, I self-imported to San Antonio to attend Trinity University where I received my degree in Urban Issues and Public Policy. While amateur-esque tree climbing and semi-professional rock climbing were previously just fun side hobbies of mine, I couldn’t let the opportunity for the time in nature I want and the adrenaline rush I need to pass me by, so I joined Kevin, whom I had met my freshman year at Trinity University, in his venture. Three short years later, I found myself attached to a crane ball, being hoisted into the air with a 32” inch chainsaw, removing some of South Texas’ grandest Oak Wilt victims. Ya just can’t go back to normal life after that. Whether I’m removing your tree to protect your home and family, or maintaining its beauty and aesthetic, you can be assured I’m happy to be doing what I’m doing aloft!”

What time of year is it ideal for having my trees worked on?

While some tree species have specific seasons of the year in which more serious operations should be conducted, most tree care operations can be conducted year round insofar that they are conducted by a qualified arborist.

How often should my trees be trimmed or pruned?

The frequency of tree trimming and pruning depends on several factors, including type of tree, its age, health, and location. Generally, most trees should be trimmed or pruned every 2 to 5 years, to maintain their health and appearance. However, specific recommendations can vary.

When should I consider removing a dead or dying tree?

If your tree appears to be in the process of dying or seems to have meaningful health concerns, schedule a free consultation and we can evaluate potential mitigation measures that may allow you to hold on to your tree for years to come. If your tree appears dead, we advise removal as soon as possible. As the wood of your tree decays over weeks and months, both the technical risk and the cost of removal increase rapidly. Additionally, some fungal infections can kill a large tree and result critical structural failures in less than 6 month

I have a landscaper, do I really need a professional arborist?

While some landscaping companies have qualified personnel to work on small tress, ornamental trees, and shrubs/bushes, very few have the proper personnel and resources to correctly maintain or remove medium and large trees safely and properly. You can always roll the dice with your property, however once the wrong limb is cut, that action can not be undone, and the aesthetic damage (both short term and long term) of some choices are irreparable.

How do you ensure the safety of my property during the tree removal process?

Our certified arborists are trained in advanced rigging methods, which allow us to carefully control the direction and speed of falling branches and tree sections. We use specialized equipment, such as ropes, pulleys, and cranes, to safely lower large tree parts to the ground without causing damage to surrounding structures, landscaping, or utilities.
